by Lanford Wilson
Gunn Theatre’s Fall 2013 Play, The Rimers of Eldritch is a swirling, kaleidoscopic look at a decaying small midwestern town frozen in time and place in the mid twentieth century. In this 1966 play, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lanford Wilson grasps the very fabric of Bible Belt America and rips away a fractured Norman Rockwell exterior to expose Eldritch’s rampant hypocracy, vividly portraying the rhythm of its life and sometimes cruelty. A theatrical tour de force, this remarkable play manically thrusts us back and forward in time as we slowly assemble the pieces of a horrible crime, learning who was the victim, the perpetrator, and who knew what when. The writing, design, and acting will take the audience on a thrilling roller coaster ride that will not soon be forgotten. This play addresses some difficult issues which might not be suitable for young children. Parental notice: We are rating this play PG-13.
